Dezső Szabó, professor emeritus, is remembered by all those who have been members of HSM for at least twenty years and participated in the conferences organized by Dr. Kristóf Kovács in Almádi. The venue was the Glasshotel, and although its cuisine cannot be compared to that served at the current Panorama Hotel, the hotel still has its own beach on Lake Balaton, and most of the participants probably still remember the atmosphere of the evening conversations. “Uncle Dezső” is a member of the “great generation” of Hungarian microscopists. In 1963, he was approached by the organizers of the Experimental Medical Institute, which was still under construction at the time, because they were familiar with Dr. Szabó’s work with microscopes. He was asked to take on the organization and management of the electron microscope laboratory to be established at the new institute. He has been a member of the institute ever since and is currently writing its history.
Although he did not participate in the drafting of the founding charter, since 1963 only Covid-19 has prevented him from working at the institute. He has continued his work ever since, only from home. He has always carried out the tasks entrusted to him, and even celebrating his 100th birthday on July 14, 2025, has not changed that.

We wish you continued good health, good spirits, and good work, Uncle Dezső!
