We invite all colleagues who use microscopy or are interested in microscopy to attend the first conference of the Hungarian Microscopy Society, to be held in April!
This year’s conference will be held from April 22 to 24, 2026, and although the venue will be the familiar and beloved Hotel Prémium Panoráma in Siófok, several new initiatives approved by the members of the HSM board are waiting to be put to the test. Those that are not successful will not be repeated next year.
Let’s take them one by one!
Given its hoped great success, our friend and colleague, academician Mihály Pósfai, may have to repeat next year the 3×45-minute interactive seminar that began at 10 a.m. on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) and was titled: Electrodiffraction Basics!
There is no extra cost for participation, but the lecturer requests that all participants bring a laptop/smartphone and a plastic school ruler.
Everyone must indicate their intention to participate on the application form.
We continue to focus on what should be one of the fundamental goals of every Hungarian scientific society, namely the cultivation and development of the Hungarian scientific language, but this year there will be an English-language day. In practice, this means that we will try to schedule all English-language presentations on the first day of the conference: plenary presentations, company presentations, and presentations by our colleagues who are not native English speakers, including PhD students.
This also benefits our invited speakers, as they will know in advance that not only will the text of the slides be in English, as has been the case so far, but also the presentation itself. We will know after the applications have been received how the speakers’ schedules will allow us to realize our intention.
The abstracts of the PhD students’ presentations will be carefully reviewed by the members of the board, and if they deem it necessary, they will discuss with the author what changes they recommend. The Young Lecturers’ Award (€250) will be voted on by the members of the board who have listened to all the presentations.
The audience award goes to the presenter whose presentation was most appreciated by the audience. Although the prize itself is modest, it comes with a certificate, and the winner’s name is posted on the MMT website.
In order to ensure that all talks are truly useful to the audience, the abstracts submitted will be reviewed by board members, and if they are not sufficiently focused on microscopy, the author will not only receive feedback, but also assistance with corrections, if requested. It is not our goal to reject presentations!
The wine tasting on the first day of the conference is a must, and since four years have passed again, the general assembly on the second day will now be an election meeting. We expect all participating HSM members to contribute with their votes to the election of a truly new board representing all parts of the country and all microscopy centers. Nominations for president and board members can be made on site, but it would be even better if nominations were sent to Zsolt Fogarassy (fogarassy.zsolt@ek.hun-ren.hu) before the conference.
I hope I have managed to arouse your interest, and that we will meet many new, talented young colleagues alongside our old ones, and learn even more from each other than before!
